Mr. Phillip Williams, Secretary of the United States Embassy, flew to Pernambuco to obtain, first-hand testimony of survivors of the freighter Robin Moor, says a Rio de Janeiro message. Captain Pereira of the Osorio. who rescued 11 survivors, declares that the Robin Moor was torpedoed by a German submarine. According to a cable from Washington officials of the Maritime Commission said the Robin Moor was torpedoed on May 21. She was a vessel of 5000 tons. She carried only general cargo and no munitions, and had a passenger list of 40. She sank 700 miles south of Cape Verde, West Africa. The crew and passengers were transferred to four lifeboats, and the Brazilian steamer Osorio picked up one of them 800 miles from the position of the sinking. Rescued members of the crew say the three other lifeboats carried 35 persons. including three women and one child. The commander of the Brazilian ship Tamandare found drifting pieces of baggage, including a suitcase, and children's toys.
