MAYORESS FAREWELLED
The retiring mayoress of Northcote, Mrs. R. Martin, entertained the staff of the borough to afternoon tea yesterday. Mr. J. Williamson, waterworks engineer, in farewelling Mrs. Martin from her official position, said she had taken her work very seriously and had not missed any important function in Northcote during the whole 10 years of her term as mayoress. Mrs. Martin, in reply, said she had regarded the staff as her family.
Mr. G. Davidson recalled the wonderful work Mrs. Martin had done during the slump and expressed the hope that she would continue her good work for many more years. The staff accorded musical honours.
