OVERSEAS LEAGUE
SIR EVELYN WRENCH'S ADDRKSS The patriotism for which the Overseas League stood was tho theme of an address given by Sir Evelyn Wrench, founder of the league, at a reception given in honour of him and Lady Wrench yesterday afternoon by the league/ The president of the league. Judge F. O. V. Acheson, introduced Sir Evelyn and Lady Wrench, and the Mayor, Air. J. A. C. Allum, was also on the platform. Mrs.'Allum was prevented by illness from attending. "I wish I could give you a picture of England as it is really now," said Sir Evelyn earnestly. ' "I wish I could convey to you the humility, the sense of comradeship that exists everywhere. "I could almost say that every man and woman is humble now.' We realise all our past sins, the inequalities and injustices that have existed Now, everyone is equal, side by side the duke and the dustman and the policeman. You cannot sit in an air raid shelter without feeling this " Speaking of the new world to be built after the war, Sir Evelyn said that a huge task would be the decontamination of millions of German minds. A short address was also given by Lady Wrench, who described their tour through America. The Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, stressing the need for moral rearmament, said that we could not win this war on our own strength He hoped that this tour of Sir Evelyn and Lady Wrench would inspire interest in the Overseas League and gain them the 1000 new members needed.
