NEW METHOD
TRANSPORT APPEALS DATES TO BE FIXED No dates have yet been fixed for the hearing of appeals against decisions of the No. 1 Transport Authority, Mr. E. J. Phelan. The appointment of Sir Francis Frazer to inquire into and report on all appeals from decisions of transport authorities was announced by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, on May 6. Mr. Semple said that in view of his appointment as Minister of Railways, and as many appeals concerned the Railway Department, the Government considered that some change in the existing appeal procedure was desirable. Sir Francis Frazer had accordingly been invited to inquire into appeals on his behalf This work would be additional to his duties on the Executive Commission of Agriculture. Mr. Phelan. said thst it would not be long until the appeals from his decisions were heard. Five had been lodged. One was from Mr. E. D. Hogan, of Takanini, against the authority's refusal of an amendment to a license to enable a general goods authority to be used for the carriage of racehorses. He considered that the new method would make for the more prompt disposal of appeals.
