YUGOSLAV APPEAL
FIGHTING FORCES FUND COLOURFUL STREET FESTIVAL. Girls dressed in the national costume of Yugoslavia provided a festive note in Queen Street and Karangahape Road to-day. when a street appeal on behalf of the Fighting Forces Fund was conducted by the Yugoslav community. The appeal was made as a gesture towards our country at a time when the Yugoslavs cannot help their own people in Yugoslavia. From 8 a.m. collection stalls were manned by smiling girls, who pinned the red, white and blue badges on the donors. Many people will be interested to know the meaning of the words on the badges. The letters "J.K." at the top mean Yugoslav Club and those underneath. "Sloga .Te Moc" "Unity is Strength." The full-skirted costumes of white with red and blue embroidery were all authentic, and one was over 100 years old. Sashes, of red. white and blue (the national colours of Yugoslavia) were worn over the shoulders of those who were not in costume. A number of girls from the Y.W.C.A. helped in the collection. During the morning the Yugoslav orchestra, mounted on a decorated float, played before the stalls.
