CHINESE ELEVEN.

Veto On Auckland Visit?

Reference to the possibility of a visit to New Zealand by the Chinese Soccer team which will" begin a tour of Australia this month, was made at last week's meeting of the board of control of the Auckland Football Association when Mr. W. H. Cole and several other members spoke in support of the project. It was decided to request the council of the New Zealand Football Association to make inquiries about a tour by the Chinese team. It was also agreed that, if the council is nor agreeable to such a tour, the Auckland Association be granted permission to negotiate with the Australian authorities. Asked to comment on the proposal. Mr. A. Williams, secretary of the X.Z.F.A.. said last Saturday that in view of prevailing conditions the council which had already decided to abandon the Chatham Cup competition this year as a war measure. would not consider undertaking the expense of a tour by the Chinese team. In his opinion the council would be unlikely to grant permission to the Auckland Association to negotiate with the Australian authorities.
