RECORD RATES COLLECTION"
The chairman of the Ohinemuri County Council. Mr. W. Marshall, reported to a meeting of the council that last year the general account commenced with a credit of £658 2/11 and ended with a credit of £982 2/6. Receipts for the year totalled £25.326 4/3 and expenditure £26.727 12/1. The total current rates collected during the year amounted to £8186 5/7. being 97.05 per cent of the amount struck, an increase of 2.39 per cent on the previous year.
"This collection of current rates is a record for this county." added Mr. Marshall, "and an achievement that few counties are likely to have equalled."
Arrears collected totalled £741 0/8, making a grand total of .rates collected of 105.84 per cent to the amount struck, an increase of 3.34 per cent over the previous year. The report went on to say that some ridings had collected over 99 per cent of the current year's rates. Rates outstanding totalled £1545, the lowest amount outstanding on record. The net public debt at March 31. 1941, jvas £8080 4/1. Th# county clerk. Mr. A. A. Jenkinson. was congratulated on the excellent results of the year's workings and especially on the collection of rates.
