RELIEF IN AUCKLAND
SIR ERXEST DAVIS* EFFORTS
Eulogistic reference to the work of the chairman. Sir Ernest Davis. was made at the annual meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Relief Committee this afternoon. The chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Board, Mr. C. M. McCuJlough. expressed the hope that Sir Ernest would continue in the position. Monsignor H. F. Holbrook said that they wanted to express gratitude for the work that Sir Ernest had done for the poor of Auckland and he hoped that in his retirement both Sir Ernest and Lady Davis would have a happy time. The meeting, by resolution, expressed apprecfation of the work of Sir Ernest and Lady Daids. Speaking in reply. Sir Ernest said that if it were the wish of the incoming Mayor, he would be pleased to carry on as chairman. The work had been a labour o"f love to them all. and he would be very pleased to assist, whether he was the chairman or not. He thanked U»e members for their kindness and added that aH that he had tried to do was to be a good citizen.
