WITHDRAWAL REFUSED

APPEAL BY FARMER. <O,C.i PUKEKOHE, Thursday. An application to withdraw an appeal against territorial trainine was refused by the Auckland Area Manpower Committee at Waiuku yesterday in the case of a farmer. Mi - . John Geoffrey Muir. After hearing evidence the committee adjourned the case sine die. Evidence given was that the reservist had volunteered for overseas service with the forces, but had been passed as fit for home defence only. He was milking a herd of 55 cows and sheared thousands of sheep in his district each season. The reservist said he was now prepared to sell the cows and go into territorial camp, with a view to becoming fit to go overseas. The committee pointed out that the territorial training would only be for three months and there was no certainty that it would make him fit for overseas. The reservist might then be discharged and have no herd to which to return.
