MADE £5 A WEEK
ARMATURE WINDER'S APPEAL
An armature winder in business on his own account, Laurence Alfred Naughton, told the Xo. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board this morning that his earnings were approximately £5 a week.
The chairman of the board. Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, said that if £10 a week had been made he would not have thought it too much owing to the importance of the occupation stressed by appellant. The business must be either losing money o . iere could not be a great demand for the services of appellant.
Appellant said that some of the profits went into stock and plant. He had not made out a balance sheet for last year.
The Crown representative, Mr. F. J. Cox, said that when the case was before the Man-Power Committee there was conflicting evidence and some measure of doubt as to whether armature winders were in short supply. Appellant's obligation was to produce evidence.
The Chairman: The hoard cannot allow the appeal. It will be dismissed.
Appellant asked for time to complete work in his shop and to find a purchaser for his business.
The Chairman: You will not be called up before July 1.
