TEMPERANCE WORK
AUCKLAND EXECUTIVE The monthly meeting of the Auckland district executive of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was presided over by the district president, Mrs. Hugh Kasper. The devotions were led by Mrs. Christopher. A presentation was made to Mrs. A. L. Lewis, who had resigned her position as district recording secretary as she is shortly leaving Auckland to. reside in Cambridge. Mrs. J. Joiner was elected district recording secretary in her place. The following committee was set up to go into the question of establishing a hostel for Maori girls in Auckland: Sister Jessie, Mrs. Long and the district officers. Mrs. Kasper announced that women police had now been appointed in New Zealand, and that the W.C.T.t , . was the first organisation to move in this direction nearly forty years ago. School of Methods A School of Methods was held in the temperance room, the district president. Mrs, Hugh Kasper, presiding. At the morning session singing and public speaking were studied. A report was given o f the model meeting which was presented by the Auckland delegates with the assistance of delegates from other districts at the recent Dominion Convention held at Nelson. A paper was read by Mrs. Tennant, district superintendent for health and nutrition. At the afternoon session an address on the subject of "How to preserve the home and safeguard child life" was built up, eight members taking part.
