DOCTORS FOR ARMY.
CHRISTCHURCH ATTITUDE
QUESTION OF APPEALS
(0.C.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day
No more doctors employed at the Christchurch Hospital will be allowed to join the military forces, in accordance with a decision made by the medical superintendent (Dr. A. D. Nelson) and placed before the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday.
"It must be recognised that a base hospital is an integral part of any country's war effort and certain members o£ the staff must be appealed for," stated Dr. Nelson in a report to the board. "I feel that the time has arrived when I can allow no more doctors from this institution to join the military forces. The civilian patients in all departments are increasing rapidly, and to provide for these and for present and future military requirements will, I think, require the services of all the doctors we have at present."
