COLOGNE FIRES.
R.A.F. RAIDS ON ENEMY
German Supply Ship Left Sinking. (Reed. 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, April 21. Widespread air operations over Europe are reported by the Air -linistry in a communique, Which states that last night aircraft of the Bomber Command attacked objectives at Cologne. The weather was bad and the results -were difficult to observe, but large fires were seen.
Other aircraft bombed objectives at Dusseldorf. Aachen and several aerodromes in German-occupied territory, the oil stores at Rotterdam, and the dock* at Dunkirk and Ostend. Three planes are missing.
In daylight yesterday aircraft of the same command continued to seek out and attack enemy coastal shippiivj. Attacks were made on shipping all the Dutch coast and off the coast of Xorwav. A heavily laden supply ship of about 3000 tons was hit and left sinking. N.. aircraft is missing from these operation-.
The Coastal Command last night i-on tinued its attacks on the docks at
Brest. Visibility was poor, but bur>t» were seen on the quays and near the dry dock. Other aircraft of the same comnHind bombed an enemy aerodrome near Caen. Xo planes are missing from these operations.
SWEEPER'S DEADLY GUNS.
(Reed. 2 p.m.! LOKDOK. April 21. The Admiralty ha# announced that of the four Messer&chmitts that attaokc-d the minesweeper Bassett on April 4. one received m direct hit and exploded in the air. A second waa seen to be heavily hit and did a half-loop before the pilot was able to regain partial control. Large pieces were seen falling from the plane, which, though on fire, and losing height, endeavoured to reach the British coast and failed. The Bassett suffered no damage and no casualties.
