78TH ANNUAL MEETING
OLDEST WOMEN'S ORGANISATION,
The 78th consecutive annual meeting of tho Onehunga Ladies' Benevolent. Society, the oldest women's organisation in the Dominion, which was founded •e.s one of the consequences of the Maori War in 1863, was hold last night. The Mayor of Onehunga, Mr. A. Garside, presided.
In presenting the report, the secretary. Mrs. F. C. Soar, stated that although there were fewer demands now on the society's funds, there were still many cases of hardship deserving attention. As a result of strict' investigation into each case, 320 monthly orders had been issued for coal, groceries, meat, eggs and milk, the sum of £111 having been expended on the latter.
The society also took an active interest in patriotic work, it was stated, and it had undertaken the duty of staffing the patriotic society's rooms for one week each month.
Thanks of the committee were extended to many donors and to honorary officers.
The statement of accounts showed the society to be in a sound financial position. there being a credit balance of £484.
