WAITAKERE SCENIC DRIVE. In order to ensure the proper preservation of bu-h adjoining the Waitakere Sccni • Drive area- to a depth of 11011, •>** to 4U chain* on each side of the highway ha\e been defined a* subject to an extra-urban planning scheme. The Waitemata County Council i" required to prepare ami submit to ilie Town Planning Hoard a suitable plan. In addition to Crown and Auckl.iud (ilv Council reserves. private property fall* within the regional planning proposals.
The Forestry Department ha* been instructed by the M'in Highway- Itoaid to make a survey of the bu>h areas affe ted. At the moment it- in\estimations appear to be i-ontined to private pro|K-rt i.-- that fall within the plan and it is marking out all commercial timber growing thereon, the value of each tree being us.-essed in view of any possible claims for < oiupcn-ation.
If at any time it wa- con-idercd desirable for the proper health and maintenance of the bu-h or for other reasons that a particular tree should be removed, thi- would be done under suitable control, and r)Uc-tion- of compensation might arise. Already quite a number of private properties have been in-pccted by Forestry Department experts.
