1 <°C.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Members of the Women's Land Army received a collective pat on the back from the Superintendent of Reserves (Mr. M. J. Burnett) for the eminently ! *uccessful vegetable prowling job they have be.cn doing on the three-quarters of •n acre adjoining Abberlev Park. Mr. Barnett, who was chiefly responsible for the technical assistance in •tarting the project on land lent by Mr. , F. Musgrave, said that he was "very pleased wich the sustained effort the I Women's Land Army had put into the work. The efforts of members on the •rea concerned would bear inspection at •ny ti»e. , Such was the interest in the enterprise, he added, that inquiries concerning the organisation had been received from ■Dunedin and Lower Hutt. Mr. Barnett said that the. Canterbury! •Horticultural Society had done much, ? ' n providing supervisors and find-i Wg seeds for the Land Army. There .were now over 100 members, who held various functions to raise funds for the provision of tools and material. A tool shed had even been provided from the funds raised bv such mean?. ! It is likely that the Land Army will [extend its activities to bee-keeping, tractor work, and probably the. production of seeds under the tuition of the Department of Agriculture.
