PLEA FOR UNITY.

LOOKING FOR LEAD.

PEOPLES' MOVEMENT IDEALS.

Commenting to-day on the Prime Minister's etatement, Mr. James Crisp, Dominion chairman of the People's .Movement said lie was pleaeed that Mr. Kraser was not rejecting the proposal <>f the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland, for the formation of a truly non-party Government.

"The * People's Movement has advo-<-.ited for some time the necessity of political unity and the shelving of party politics for the duration of the war," -•■aid Me. Crisp. "They state there is no need for a general election this year if a non-party Government i«. formed, as the money spent on the elections could be used to greater advantage in buying Hurricanes and Spitfires for the Mother Country, or assisting in our own home defence. Also our Cabinet Ministers would l>e far better employed putting their all into our war effort, than wasting three months touring the country stirring up party strife among the general public.

"However," said Mr. Crisp, "we wish to point out that not only must the National party cease active public platform propaganda, but the use of the radio by the Labour party must also b" discontinued, to achieve that unity which the Government is advocating, and which the people are wholeheartedly willing to support, provided a proper lead is given by the political leaders.

"In our opinion this political unity should have been achieved before Mr. / Fraser left for the Old Country, so that he could go to London and say 'We have political unity in our country, Mr. Churchill. We have the whole of the people behind us. Now, what more can we do to assist you in your gigantic task?' "
