TEASING INTO NAZI AIRCRAFT IN GREECE.
GREAT RA.F. DEEDS
Classic Battle May Win Balkans War. Tirilisli Official Wireless. (Reed. 2.:!o p.m.) Kt"(ißY. April Hi. British lighter pilots are tearing' into the German formations over Greece, states an R.A.F. Middle East communique, and are showing the same quality of dash and skill, and I lie same brilliant courage that shattered the enemy in the classic Battle of Britain. Already tales of their deeds are being told which may well take place in legend, making even Greek anthology itself seem almost colourless.
The Germans are emnloyinjj large if umber* uf dive-boimbers in attack* on the Imperial troope and their communications. That so many bombs fall harmlessly on the mountain sides and in the sea is because 110 aircraft crew can possibly concentrate on bomb aiming with the knowledge tJliat Hurricanes are on 1 heir fail.
The dive-bombers are being steadily defeated. Already, after a short period of .icrial convba.t in this theatre of war, one U.A.F. squadron has just accounted for its hundredth enemy aircraft —a ."Junkers SS, which broke off the brief encounter in plunge into fhe sea near the Greek capital.
The unconcern of our pilots in de--cribing their encounters gives no clue in the enormous odds they accept as a iu,i tter of course. Such is their confidence ,md skill that they are emerging from rlash after clash almost unscathed, while l he. toll of enemy aircraft mounts steadily higher.
'•'fhe Times" Athens correspondent -tates that German bombers on April 13 made violent raids on Larissa, Volo, Trikkala, Karditza and other key points behind the Allied lines.
