Enemy Ships Bombed Off Coast

Of France. Rritish Offici.il Wireless. (Rood.* 1 p.m.) RUGBY. April 16. An Air Ministry communique states : —''Three heavily-laden enemy coastal vessels off north-west France were attacked in daylight yesterday by a Blenheim of the Bomber Command. Direct hits were obtained on two of the vessels, which were left sinking.

'"Aircraft of the same command made a low level attack on Borkum at dusk. A freighter lying off the island was also attacked and hit twice amid-hip*.

"Offensive daylight patrols over the. Channel and Northern France were earned nut by aircraft of the Fighter Command yesterday. Two enemy fighters were destroyed and an enemy bomber was intercepted by our fighters in the afternoon and t-hot down into the m-u south of the 1~10 ot Wight. One lumber and one lighter aircraft are missing from these daylight operations. In addition, an aircraft of the Coastal Command is missing from patrol yesterday.

"Last night, despite unfavourable weather, considerable forces of aircraft of the Bomber Command attacked targets in Northern Germany, the principal objective being the naval at Kiel, where many bombs fell on shipbuilding yards and fires were started. The docks at Boulogne were also bombed through gaps in the prevailing clouds. From these night operations two of our aircraft are missing."
