SUBMARINE SUNK?
COLLISION WITH U-BOAT. (Reed. 1 p.m.) MONTREAL, April 4. ! The crew of a big merchant ship, the hull of which was pierced below the waterline, told of a race for harbour after a collision with a German submarine in the Atlantic. The shipj arrived in an east Canadian port and i the crew said that the two vessels I struck as the submarine came to the I surface. Water flooded into the merchant I veis-sel's en<jincroom and the crew ■ swiftly plugged the hole. j The submarine began to shell the ship,; but the "inns died after a few rounds.' This led the crew to believe that the submarine had sunk. j
