RUGBY LEAGUE PLANS FOR COMING SEASON.

Succeee duririK the past season -was stressed, and plans for the coming season were discussed at the annual meeting of the -Auckland Rugby League last evening. The president, Mr. J. A. Lee, !M.P., presided over a large attendance. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-shoot, tho chairman of the board of control, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, said that tho results oE lastseason wan a matter of gratification. At the start of last year, some did not know how the season would turn out, but through, wonderful teamwork by the clubs, and those connected with the frame, they were able to achieve ench a line result. Ho congratulated the clubs on their efforts and the players who had given the public the kind of football they wanted. The players themselves hail been helpful to add to the prestige of the game. The league had every reason to be proud of it« . organisation.

Commenting on the annual report. Mr. Camp- I bell referred to the assistance given to the I patriotic funds. He said that nobody could say j what was going to happen in the coming season, but there were indications thnt thry were starting off on the right, foot. Many players had enlisted, and. as conscription was now the law, nobody could have any doubts about playing the game. They had to carry on -so that young men could be occupied until required In other directions. Mr. Campbell mentioned that the League had arranged a second 21 years' lease of Carlaw Park, and he paid a tribute to the work of the a nrst-cl&ss recreation park. Mr. E. J. phelan said the results achieved had been possible through the loyalty of the players and those responsible for carrying on the game. Mr. Lee said that the code had Rone from success to success. It was right that the young players should rnrry on. as the State decided who should go into camp. The president of the New Zealand Rugbv League, Mr. J. A. Redwood, on behalf of tho parent body, congratulated the Auckland Leacue on Its success. He said that the past season had been successful in Taranaki, Wellington and West Coast. Goodwill Cable. On the motion of Mr. Campbell, the Rußby League decided to send a goodwill cable to the English Rugby League. Mr. Redwood said the recent advice from England showed that the game had been carried on. and they were only five teams short of the regular number in Yorkshire and Lancashire, inere had been large attendances.
