THEFT OF -PETROL
YOUNG MAN BEFORE COURT] Five charges of theft of a total of six gallons of petrol in the Paeroa-Waihi district were admitted by William Alfred Stace, a builder*' labourer, aged 21, when he appeared on summons in the Police Court to-dav.
It was explained by Sub-Inspector Pender that Stace was one of live youths who had gone about in a gang equipped with siphoning appliances, 'milking cars.' lhev had used a car to go to dances, and the petrol stolen was consumed in the car. The other four youths had already been dealt with at Wailii. Staco had never previously been in trouble. Mr. Pender added that cmch offences were prevalent and extremelyhard to detect.
"You will find you cannot do thus sort of thing another time, otherwise you will be more severely dealt with," Mr. F. 11. Levien, S.M., told Stace. "In fact it is costly even for the first time."
On one charge Stace was fined £.), and on another £2, while he was convicted and discharged on the other counts. :
