According to the Auckland District Law Socety s annual report provision for the making of wills and powers of attorney free of charge for members of the Expeditionary Force at Papakura was continued during the year. To date approximately 4500 wills and powers of attorney had been prepared and special accommodation provided by the council for the custody of wills, «cneral legal advice had also been given freDifficulties had resulted in manv offices as a result of the war, there being 44 practitioners and 14 unqualified clerks on service in New Zealand or abroad. Steps had been taken with th e object of protecting and preserving the practices of solicitors on military service. The society had taken up with the Oil Fuel Controller the question of petrol allowances to. solicitors whose practices necessitated the use of a motor car.
