"WHAT A COW!"

WAIKOWHAI PROBLEM.

UNWANTED BODY ON ROAD.

Inhabitants of the pleasant district of Waikowhai are disturbed. A cow has died on the road, and no one, apparently, wants to take upon himself the task of disposing of the body.

Anxious residents rang the Health Department when the cow began to make its presence smelt. The Health Department, rang the Mount Roskill Road Board. The Mount Roskill Road Board rang several people in an endeavour to find the owner of the animal, but without success. When inquiries were made this morning it was stated that the board was dealing with the situation in the usual manner. Unfortunately it appears that they arc unable to take any action until they discover the owner of the cow.

Meanwhile residents of the district, whose olfactory nerves arc neither more nor less sensitive than the ordinary mortal's, are beginning to gently ponder whether the whole business, including the cow, is not going too far. One said to-day, quite good-humoredlv. "I couldn't get a. wink of sleep last night. It is as bad as a gas attack." Another was almost prepared to swear that the large numbers of blowflies were buzzing out somebody's symphony in B flat.

To-day, anyway, lavender bottles were much in evidence. The persecuted residents are doing everything except drink lavender water, and if some action is not taken immediately it mav even come to that.
