CITY FIRE BRIGADE.

THRILL FOR BOARD MEMBERS.

Members of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board liad first-hand evidence of the efficiency of tlie city's lire-lighting service this morning.

The monthly meeting, which is. held in a room adjoining the Central Fire Station in Pitt Street, was in progress when an alarm was sounded. The din of the gong had scarcely finished when the chairman, Mr. J. J. Kingston, suggested that the business be interrupted so that members could see the turn-out.

Thdk-e was a rush to the door, but the only part of the "turn-out" seen was the back of a fully-manned fire engine as it sped down Pitt Street. The machine was ready for action and on it 6 way in 13 seconds dead.

"A very fine effort," stated members of the board as they settled down to their briefly-interrupted labours.
