POLICE RAID SEQUEL.
CHINESE BEFORE COURT.
As a result of a raid at 55, Grey's Avenue last night, when detectives used crowbars and a hacksaw to gain entrance, eleven Chinese appeared before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court to-day charged with being found in possession of prepared opium. They were Albert Duk, Wong Chong, Chun Quing, Ah Lein, Wong Wing, Ah Lee, Ah Kee, Ah Sing, Shee Tong, Ah Jong and Won Lay Hum. Hum was also charged with permitting the smoking of opium on the premises. The raid last night was carried out by Detective-Sergeants F. N. Aplin and S. F. Brady and Detectives W. H. Cromwell and G. Surgenor. They found the doors and windows strongly barricaded and a hacksaw and crowbar had to be used to break down the obstructions.
On the application of DetectiveSergeant Walsh a remand was granted for one week, bail being fixed at £50. Mr. J. F. W. Dickson appeared for all defendants.
