FREEZING SPACE.

Duncan, chairman of the Meat Board. Ever since the couunencenient of the war, he said, the 'board <hnd 'been emphasising the need for sufficient storage space at freezing worxs. Conferences had <be'en held between representatives of tile Governimerat, the freezing companies and the 'board, and as a result considerable additions liad been completed' or -were in course of eompleition at various works. In addition provision was being made by the Government for emergency etorogc space. Material for the buildings liad been secured and the •work would be pushed ahead. This emergency storage, when erected, should make the total storage available sufficient to enaible this season's killings to proceed normally. It was stated on behalf of tJhe Wellington Harbour Board that the board will not be directly affected by any increased demand for space to accommodate suplue quantities of meat, but it ■will be seriously affected by a falling off in revenue if in<..«t shipments are curtailed. The me'thod of shipping meat entails the transfer cf the produce in truck to tflie ■wharf, and it is then transferred from truck *o ship by ship's laJbour. Last year approximately 66,000 tons of meat passed over the wharves at Wellington, and n> will depend on the extent to which shipments are curtailed how fer the board's revenue will be' reduced.
