BLAZE IN CAPITAL.

OLD MASONIC HALL. ADJOINING HOUSES SAVED. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. Billowing smoke shortly after 9 o'clock to-day attracted a large crowd to Boulcott Street, where the old Masonic Hall, a lofty pile of ancient timbef, occupied for some years past by, the Wellington Cabinet Company as a factory for furniture and bedding, provided the thrill they were looking for. The fire had a hold when the firemen got there and aill that could be done was to prevent the spread of fthe flames to adjoining residences—old wooden houses that nestled close on all sides, except the street frontage. This was successfully accomplished, though some suffered from the effects of water and smoke.

Only the shell of the hall now stands, Ithe interior being completely gutted. Neither the cause of the fire nor the amount of loss can be ascertained yet.
