SCORES OVER MILE. SEVERAL FAVOURITES SUCCEED. Not Out, who has had his attentions confined mainly to sprint events this son, showed promise of staying when he finished third in the Otapro Handicap, one mile, two furlongs and a half on the first day of the Dunedin summer meeting at Wingatui on Thursday, while on Saturday he won the St. Andrew's Handicap, one mile, from Moiia's Song and Heidelberg. Mona's Song took the Southland Cup recently, while Heidelberg had run second in the chief event at the Gore spring meeting. Not Out was an each-way favourite.

Pleading. who had been successful in the Salisbury Handicap on the first day. was the public elect for the Fernhill Handicap, but Craiglea, the third favourite, (lead-heated with him. Pleading had won the Lin wood Handicap at Riccarton last month and later the Apprentices' Hack Handicap at Ashburton, both seven-fur-long races._ Craiglea was a winner at Gore and Riccarton this term. Sham Boy, .who was third, was twelfth favourite on the place machine.

Boloyna, who won a double at the ,Grand National fixture, put up his best effort since then when he took the Allanton Ifendicap, with Second Innings and 'Petersham in the places. This was the best race run by Second Innings since he 'won the chief event at Banks Peninsula last month.

Happy Night was the fourth coneecutive win favourite to come home during the afternoon when he won the Farewell Handicap, while Aspire, who was second to him, and Foxette, who was third, were the outsiders of the field. Happy Night, who comes from the same family as Pilar Lap, was placed on the opening day. The totalisntoe handled £25,482, against £22,028 10/ for the second day last year, an increase of £3453 10/. The total for the two days was £52.009. Last year there was a three-day meeting. Results: —
