COMPLAINTS INCREASE.

EXCESS PROFITS TAXATION. CAMPAIGN IN BRITAIN. LONDON, December 28. The campaign against the Excess Profits Tax is gathering torce. The chairmen of many companies at annual meetings are complaining of the inequitable incidence of t lie tax. The "Daily Telcgraplv' says that representations have been made to the Chancellor of the Exchequer that the tax tends to remove the incentive to efficiency and economy, and suggests that he should modify the tax in his next Budget, possibly reducing the 100 per cent duty, to 80 or 90 per cent.

The commodity markets have been affected l»y the holidays. Turnover is mostly small with little change in prices. The only one to eliow activity has been cotton, which advanced sharply, apparently owing to fears that German raids might interrupt the flow of supplies.
