U.S. Labour Plan To Produce 500 Planes Daily. PRESIDENT'S STATEMENT. (Reed. 10 a.m.) WASHIXGTOX, Dec 27. President Roosevelt told a Press conference that the proposal, designed eventually to produce 500 pursuit planes daily, was being seriously studied. Tho president of the Congress of Industrial Organisations, Mr. Philip Murray, announced on December 23 that he would present President Roosevelt with a plan to utilise the unused capacity of the motor car industry, which could produce, after six months' preparations, 500 of the most modern fighting aeroplanes a dav, approximately 150,000 a year. Mr. Murray said the unused plant capacity exceeded the combined British, German, French, Italian, Russian and Japanese automobile production, being approximately 4,000,000 cars a year.
