DELAYED GOODS.
IMPORTERS' DIFFICULTY. Ordered by Auckland importers under third and fourth period import licenses, thousands of pounds' worth of goods are held up in Australian ports awaiting a vessel to New Zealand, and may become a charge against merchants' fifth period .licenses, or be shut out of the Dominion altogether. It has become impossible for the goods, which include Middle East products, such as dates ordered for Christinas, to arrive in New Zealand before December 31, the date of the expiry of the third and fourth period licenses. War conditions nave t>een responsible for the goods being delayed, but representations made to the Minister of Customs, the Hon. YV. Xash, to take this aspect into consideration have proved fruitless. It is stated that failure by the Government to recognise delays arising out of war conditions is giving rise to considerable criticism overseas.
