Sue Went to the Fair
Sue pent la the fair with sixpence to spend, . But when she got there it had come to an end. The stalls that sold sweets and the one that sold toys Were cleared of their treats for small girls and boys; The cqconut sticks without heads stood about* Like long candle wicks with the light just blown out. The big switchback stand pas a skeleton hill, The roundabout band had grown silent and stillQh, where was the glitter the fair should reveal? The grass was a litter of paper and peel. And the men with brown arms and gfrls pith black hair. Who had packed up the charms and the toys of the fair. Were strangers to Sue; she had come as their friend, But no one knew she had sixpence to spend.
