R.A.F. PILOT AT 60.
VETERAN JOINS UP. (Special.) LONDON 1 ", .November 10. Britain's .oldest active pilot and the only one of his age flying 400 ni.p.h. fighters for the R.A.F., is Pilot-Officer Smith-Barry, formerly Colonel SmithBarry, commandant of the R.A.F. school at Gosport. As Colonel Smith-Barry lie founded the "Gosport system" of training in the early days of the last war when Hying tuition was largely self-taught. When he emerged from retirement and offered his services' to the R.A.F. despite his age, lie insisted on talcing up active flying. He passed his medical tests and started at the bottom as an acting pilotofficer on probation, like any youth of IS. To-day he is with the R.A.F. ferry pool, whose pilots deliver aircraft of all types in all weathers to the squadrons from the manufacturers.
