Nineteen forty has been au eventful year, which will go down in the annals of history as a turning point for the entire human race, and in this week's issue of the "N.Z. Woman's Weekly" the editress discusses all the anxious moments that have been our lot during the past year. Now, while ringing in the New Year we may trust that the ie past and although 1940 may 'not see the complete recovery of the patient, we may Jook forward to steady and continuous improvement. The fact is emphasised that the reign of reason, co-operation and settlement is in the process of being born.

A history of the Christ mae and New Year customs of Old England is also contained in the issue, and readers will be interested in the many old traditions that are described. There is also an article on the care of the skin during the trying summer months when sunny weather tempts us forth into the open air and motoring and all sorts of sports keep us out of doors all day. For these reasons the protection of the complexion is increasingly important and methods of facial treatment must change with the weather.
