IN ENEMY AREAS.
CONDITIONS TO BE OBSERVED
Conditions under which people mav communicate with friends in enemv countries or enemy occupied territory have been issued by the Controller of Censorships, Mr. G. McXamara. These conditions do not apply to communications for prisoners of war, comprising Britieh and Allied naval, military and air force prisoners, and civilian internees.
A series of conditions attaches to the authority now given to permit communication with persons residing or detained in enemy territories through the authorised intermediary, Thomas Cook and Son, Limited. Letters must not show the address of the sender. They may be in English or the language, including Czech, of the country for which they are intended, and are not to contain anything but matters of personal interest. No reference is to be made to any city, town, locality or journey in New Zealand, to any phase of the war, or to any office of Thomas Cook and Son, Limited, in New Zealand or abroad.
Each letter must be placed in an open, unstamped envelope fully addressed to the addressee, who should be asked to send any reply to the writer's full name, care of Post Box 525, Lisbon, Portugal. The open envelope containing the letter should be enclosed in another envelope, •to be stamped and posted to Thomas Cook and Son, Limited (Foreign Department), PoJt Office Box lfif.l, Wellington, together .With a memorandum plainly written, Jin block letters, giving the name and full address of the sender, and an open addressed envelope for the forwarding of the reply, should one be received. The communication to Thomas Cook and Son, Limited, must have enclosed a postal note, not stamps or international coupons, for 2/6. Letters exceeding loz in weight will be subject to »•» additjfial charge.
