VS. EXPERT'S VIEW.
Balkan Move After Failure
Against Britain.
British Officii! nrirrirm. (Reed- 1 p.m.) RUGBY, Oct- 14. The importance of the "BaStle for Britain" as a sot back for German plans, was emphasised by Major George Fielding Eliot, United States air expert, broadcasting from Philadelphia, when he said: "While immediate interest is now centred on confused events in the Balkan peninsula, the very faft that Germany is now proceeding to the scene of southeast Europe raises the question whether the Battle for Britain is being abandoned by Germany— whether the issue is not a clear-cut victory for the British, particularly for the Royal Air Force. "Evidence fenw to many mind* quito clear that in this Rattle for Britain, Hitler has at last met a major defeat. Kor tlio first time he has had to turn back from a venture upon which he had set forth with every prosj«cct of success. "For the first time lie has made boast* and announced intentions which be ha.* been unable to make good. Naturally every effort will be made by the German* to distract tW attention of the world, and especially the American people, from this tremendous fact. "The failure of the German* to achieve air superiority over Britain made the invasion of that Uland a hopeless project. The A*i* ha* now been compelled to recast the wh«»l« p3an of the war and no man would now be hold enough to «ay what the result will be. "A long war has heen precWeJy the sort, of war that neither Germanr nor Italy was prepared to fiyht. A* far as the war in the air in concerned, the German mass production plan ha* failed."
