UNUSUAL EVENT.
TRIBUTE TO KB. MACDONAIO. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. An unusual event in the annals of the industrial movement in New Zealand, representative* of various trade unions in Canterbury, paid a tribute to the work of Mr. D. I. Macdoiiald, secretary and advocate of the Canterbury Employers' Association, at morning tea to-day. It was the first time so far ae he knew that an employer*' representative had been entertained by lib "opponents," said the chairman, Mr. J. Roberto. However, this showed the high esteem in which Mr. Macdonald was held at the Trades Hall. All the unions represented would testify to the fair and helpful treatment received from Mr. Macdonald. Mr. Roberta presented a cigarette bos to Mr. Macdonald from the union secretaries. Reference to the frank and mutually helpful spirit in which all his negotiations with the unions had been carried out was made by Mr. Macdonald in his reply. Mr. Macdonald has been appointed secretary to the Xew Zealand Manufacturers' Federation.
