This is the third occasion on which Bartleet lias won at Middleanore, but the. event this year is known as the scratch match play contest and the winner's aame will not go on the 'honour's board. Bartleet's victory was as convincing as it was overwhelming. At no stage of the match did Plumley really get. a chance to retrieve the grip on the game which his opponent got in the first four holes, and only occasionally did he reproduce the golf of which (he is capable. Practically throughout Bartleet wag making the pace, and he played good golf ■with only occasional flaws. The second round was played out and Bartleet wanted two fours for a 74, and took sixes. In the morning he took a six at' the short tenth (Plumley winning in 5 when Iboth players were bunkered), and had a round of 80. Plumley's driving got him inito difficulties early in the match, and he was three down with four holes played, and four down at the turn. After Plumley had won the tenth, following a series ol mishaps, ne failed by a fraction of an inch to hale a3 at the eleventh. His ball hung over the hole. It was a half stymie, but Bartleet holed a fifteen-footer for his three and was 4 0 up again. _ . Both played excellent shots to the thirteenth, Bartleet three putting to lose the hole. Be won two of the next three to Decome 5 up. and lost the seventeenth- 5 - J Wamley%--4," =4he~ round {ending with Bartleet r up.'
Plumley won the opening hole in the second round'. with a sound 4, Bartleet pulling his drive into the paddock. When he chipped over the mounds to get a 4 at the fourth hole the leader started a winning sequence of three holes (a 3 at the sixth) which ieft him with the commanding lead of 6 up. This he increased to 1 up at the eighth. Plumley again won the tenth, this time with a 3 and again lost the eleventh; a half at the twelfth saw the end of a one-sided final.
