CHARTER REFUSED
AMERICAN VESSELS.
Britain May Have Threatened
Tankers For Spain.
OIL WOULD GO TO GERMANY
United Press Association.—Copyright. (Itccelved 10 u.m.) WASHINGTON, July 25. The Maritime Commission disclosed that it has refused a charter for ships for the Japanese service. This is following the policy of keeping American tankers in the western hemisphere only. The Maritime Commission and the Treasury have also refused to permit American tankers to carry oil to Spain, claiming that such voyages are too dangerous.
It is unofficially suggested that Britain might have threatened action against such tankers on the grounds that the oil was transported to Germany from Spain.
