INTERESTING STAGE OF CHAMPIONSHIP.

The interesting stage of the Rugby League competition was stressed last evening at the meeting of the control board when a suggestion was made that tae sequence of matches in the second round be changed. PILOT OFFICER J. L. BICKERDIKE, of Chrittchurch, who ha* been reported killed in an aircraft accident in England, was a former King's College athlete. In the Auckland combined secondary schools' championships at the Domain on April 10, 1937, he was placed second to R. B. Johnston, Mount Albert, in both the 100 and 220 yards. Next day, as the result of examination of a photographic negative of the furlong finish, the race was awarded to Bickerdike. He is here seen putting the shot at the same meeting, when his 40ft 7 Jin broke the New Zealand collegiate record.
