RAIDED AREAS.
REPORTER'S TOUR.
No Serious Interruption To
Production.
NAZIS DISTORT FACTS. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 1.30* p.m.) LONDON, July 21. A "Daily Telegraph" reporter, after a tour of areas recently heavily raided, says that tons of bombs had been dropped, but little material damage had been done. There was no serious interruption to production and the morale of the people was as high as ever.
The effect of numerous raids in southwest England was negligible, despite claims in German communiques. The bulk of the damage had been to civilian property.
A German communique states: "Fighter 'planes last night and to-night attacked air base*, harbour works and oil tanks in south and central England and an industrial plant near Newcastle, causing fires and explosions.
"During attacks against convoys a cruiser and two destroyers were hit and seriously damaged. Our chasers in fights over the Channel shot down eight 'planes. Another was 6hot down near Rotterdam. "British 'planes las!t night again dropped bombs on north and west Germany and Holland. Damage was inconsiderable. Several bombs fell in a small town in north Germany, killing seven civilians. During these air attacks we shot down nine 'planes. • "Our defences forced the raiders to retire from Wilhelmshaven. Naval antiaircraft fire brought down four enemy 'planes. Total British losses yesterday were 22 'planes. Five of ours are missing." It is authoritatively stated in London that the' Germans are distorting figures. Actually 12 German 'planes were definitely destroyed during yesterday's air operations over the Channel and British coast. We lost only two fighters.
