NEW STEAMER.
BUILT AT AUCKLAND. LAUNCHING TO-MORROW. USE IN OYSTER TRADE. Torea, which means oyster, is the. appropriate name chosen for a new steamer which, will leave the ways of Shipbuilders, Limited, Freeman's Bay, at high tide to-morrow morning, as the. vessel is to be engaged in the oyster trade at the Bluff. Constructed 011 conventional steamer lines, the Torea has an iron frame, planked with kauri, of a single skin, and specially strengthened for the work ahead. She is flush-decked, has a straight stem, countcr stern, two pole masts, whec-lhouse set amidships and tall rakish funnel immediately abaft. She has a length of 70ft, with a beam of 17ft' and a moulded depth of 7.3 ft. Engines of fill h.p. are expected to develop nine knots. The new steamer lias been built to (lie order of Stewart Island Canneries, Limited, and features of the design are raised oyster-benches amidships and near the stern. The Torea will be taken south by Captain C. Hansen, of the Bluff, who will have-a crew of four men with him. The gross tonnage of the vessel is 42' tons. The christening ceremony to-morrow will be performed by Mrs. J. Scoullar.
