DEATH IN 80TH YEAR.
| PIONEER MISSIONARY. ! REV 7 . GEORGE EGERTON WARD. The death occurred this mo.ning of the Rev. George Egerton Ward, of Hillsboro' Koad, Mount Roski-U, in his 80th year. Born in Bendigo, Australia, in 1860, in which city his father was the lirst practising solicitor, Mr. Ward came to New Zealand as a- child. He was educated tit the Dunedin Boys' High School and later travelled on the Continent and England, where he studied medicine. Returning to the Dominion lie was engaged in banking and farming in turn, and then entered the Presbyterian ministry in 18U8, being stationed first at Huntly. In 1902 he commenced Maori mission work at Taumarunui, where he remained until he retired live years ago to live in Auckland. Mr. Ward took a keen interest in public affairs, being at one time deputy-Mayor of Taumarunui. His knowledge of medicine was particularly useful in the pioneering days, when doctors were scarce in the country districts.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters. There are two grandchildren.
