FAR EAST DISPUTE.

Japan Suspects Britain Of

Vacillation.

UNITED STATES' ACTIONS

(Received 10 a.m.)

TOKYO, July 4.

The Navy's spokesman, Captain iuzura Okuina, said that, inasmuch as the stoppage of war supplies to Chungking has an important hearing on the settlement of the Chinese affair, Ihe Japanese Government is waiting for the British reply on the Burma protest -with "grave concern and firm determination.

"The impression in Japan is that Britain is deliberately delaying its reply, and this impression is aggravating Japanese sentiment toward Britain."

Referring to the Hongkong evacuation, Jie said: "Britain is resorting to a trick to attract United States attention and serve its own purpose."

Captain Okuina expressed the viewthat Japan wae not particularly lelieved liy the admissions of Colonel Charles Knox, -United States Secretary or the Navy, and Senator D. I. Walsh, chairman of the Sennte Naval Committee, on Tuesday that the American Navy is at. present unable to prevent Japanese control of the Kast Indies.

He remarked that actions spoke louder than words, and such actions acceptable to Japan would ceas". firstly. aid to Marshal Chia-.g Kai-shek; secondly, termination of obstruct ions to Japan's efforts to dispose of the China conflict; and, thirdly, trade coercion and threats.

The correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain at Hongkong says the Japanese have established control of stations at five key points on highways and railways connecting French Indo-China \rith China.
