SUSTENANCE ROLLS.
Now that we read of patriotic women working in munition factories on a ninehour shift and seven days weekly at, I believe, a wage of 30/ per week, I beg to suggest that an investigation or '"purge" should be made of the "sustenance" rolls with the object of weeding out perfectly fit and able-bodied young women who receive £1 per week for doing nothing. In most cases these "ladies" (?) consider that any work factory or otherwise) beneath an artificial standard of dignity—they do not appear to have either the sense or imagination of what would happen to themselves if the Nazis actually arrived here. Should these women plead physical disability a medical examination should be insisted upon. VIGILANT.
