DIFFICULT YEAR.
MANUREWA CHILDREN'S HOME. In the annual report of the Manurewa Children's Home, the secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. E. Whitton, J.P , stated that owing to the national upheaval tiie year had been a difficult one. but that the work for the childrA is being continued strongly in spite of unsettled conditions. Twenty-six new children had been admitted and 27 discharged, most of the latter to father or mother, who had made new homes. Two boys were placed to work on farms. A total of 711 children have been received into the home since its foundation, of whom 44 are now in residence. Five old boys had enlisted and been accepted fo« active service. Donations exceeded those received in the previous year by £445 and the year was closed with a deficit of £273. Total expenditure on general account increased by £194 on the previous year, the increase being accounted for by the purchase of domestic appliances.
