EDUCATION CONTROL.

NOMINATIONS CLOSE. MB. T. V. WEIXS , RETIREMENT. The biennial election of half the members of the Auckland Education Board is to be held next month, and nominations closed.yesterday for the vacancies. Not seeking re-election- as Auckland urban representatives are Sir, C. R. Mmiro, who has transferred to Willraauku. and Mr. T. U. Wells, who has given lengthy service to the board.

Mr. Wells was first elected to the board in April, 1923, and he was chairman from 1932 to 1935. Some years ago lie was commissioned by tho Government to visit Canada and the United States to report on the consolidation of schools, and since then he lias boon very actively interested in the consolidation of schools, a subject on which he is recognised as being an authority.

Retiring Auckland urban area representatives arc Messrs. Wells, Mumo and VV. H. Fortune, and 11 nominations have l>een received for the throe vacancies, those of -Messrs. T. F. Anderson, A. J. BilHngton, W. H. Fortune, A. Gilbert, F. Hackctt, Ij. B. Inch, 0. S. Morns, M. Priestley, L. 35. Rhodes and Maa-. dames I. MeCready and R, M. Mountjoy.

The retiring Hamilton urban area representative, Mr. F. A, Snell, and the retiring member for the Auckland Kaet Ward, the Hon. A. Burns, M.L.C., havo been returned unopposed. In tho North Wnrd the sitting member, Mr. G. S. B. Morrison, of Whaiigarei, is being opposed by Mrs. M. Irwin, of CiroCnhitlie, while in the East Ward tlip present representative, Mr. J. Primrose, is being opposed by Mr. J. Patterson, of Piikckohe, a former member of the Board. :

The date for the election has been fixed for July 17, and each member, ol the school committees in the respective wards is entitled to oxei'eise his or her vote, Voting papers arc to be issued at the week-end, and voting papers received up to July 23, bearing a postmark of no later than July 17, will bo accepted by tho returning officer. The votes will be counted on July 24.

Members of the board not affected by the election, who have two years in office yet to rim, are the chairman, Mr. W. J. "Campbell, and Messrs. R. A. Hule and' G. Spooner (Auckland urbim area), Air. S. B. Sims (Hamilton area), Mr. W. Bowyer (West Ward), Mr. J. Elliott (North Ward), and Mr. A. N. Macky (East Ward).
