MINISTER'S "BLOOD BOILS."

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

SYDNEY, June 24,

Claiming that certain horsedealers artmaking scandalous and excessive profits in their dealings with the Army Remount Department, the PostmasterGeneral, Mr. H. V. Thorby, declared recently that he intended to sheet home the charges.

Among things he had learned, he said, iwere details of a sale held in the country late last year specially for horses for the Army.

There was no representative of the Remount Department present at tin , sale, and practically the whole yarding of about 200 horsee was purchased by one buver at prices ranging from £4 to £14.

This buyer asked that the horeee pur chaeed should be allowed to remain in the saleyards for the night. Next day a military remount buyer arrived and purchased all the horses at the yards which averaged £22.

Mr. Thorby said he would demand an immediate and searching open inquiry. Although he claims that he has sufficient and reliable evidence to shee.t the charges home to those concerned, he is appealing to any owner who has sold horses for Army purposes to furnish him with full particulars of the transaction, including the date, place, brand, prieo and type of horse. "When I see little children hand in the contents of their money boxee to assist in winning the war, and then think of people openly robbing the Defence Department, it makes my blood boil," declared Mr. Thorby.

"No stone will be left unturned tu bring those concerned the punishment they deeerve." . j
