LOCAL BODIES.
NORTHCOTE BOROUGH. The Northcote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, presiding. Stafford Park.—The League Football Club aek=d permission to take up a collection in iiul of the funds of the Northcote Red Cross branch at a burlesque football match to be played on July 6. Permission was granted.
Wharf .—The Harbour Board acknowledged receipt of a letter from the council advieing that the atone pitching under the albutment of the Norbhcote wharf wae in need of repair. The board replied that this would be examined and any repairs which may be Che responeibility of the board would be carried out.
Ferry Servioe.—The Devonport Ferry Company advised fche council of the new vehicular ferry time-table. The present passenger service has not been altered. Th« council have' written to the Minwter of Transport pointing out tliar ae far af coal fuel wae concerned the vehicular f«rriea could iun to Nbrfchcote and this would save seven minute" steaming, and that a 40-minut«f eeivig* w« practinlly useleee'aud resulted in most vehicles going an extra mix fa twelve miles via Devonport to save time, even though it involved using additional benzine. The council therefore considered the intervention of the Minister would be worth while for ■the purpose of conserving coal and petrol, especially when this economy would result in an improved *ervice.
